The older we become, the more we notice how time is running. If a year in our childhood feels like an eternity, we are astonished how shortly after Christmas, the summer is just around again and the next winter is already on the doorstep.
In urban development and architecture, too, it is depressing how quickly one-time jewels of a district are forgotten, and years later they are no longer smart enough to be a magnet for pus- tating life.
Thus the architects of the once so innovative and outstanding monuments must become melancholic, in view of the downfall of the once magnificent architecture miracles.
A glimmer of sublime can be seen when one looks at the marvels of architecture from afar. A deeper look into the backyards makes the decay of one-time jewels to concrete waste in the end-time gray to the sad certainty. And the knowledge of the impermanence which has been held before nothing makes the colors fade.
